On the 21st of May, Zodeq’s Paul Cooney, James Turner, and Michelle Nolan will be donning their running gear and taking to the streets for the MBNA Chester Half Marathon to raise funds for the Countess of Chester’s Blue Skies Balcony Appeal.
The route will see them start from the famous Chester Racecourse, run through the picturesque villages of Mollington and Lea by Backford, along Parkgate Road and through part of Saughall village before returning to the city centre for the grand finish outside the Town Hall and Cathedral where crowds will be waiting to celebrate.
What is the Blue Skies Appeal?
The Blue Skies Appeal is raising vital funds to build a garden balcony for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The balcony will provide an outdoor space for patients in a safe, infection-controlled environment, benefiting patients, staff, and visitors alike.
There is clear evidence that natural light and fresh air can help reduce stress for patients. Spending time outside brings therapeutic benefits, helping them to feel calmer, and in some cases, having a positive impact on clinical outcomes, such as reducing the levels of pain management medication required as well as improving recovery times and consequently reducing the length of hospital stays.
The team have set a target of £2000 for this incredible appeal. Fundraising has already begun and Paul, James and Michelle are a quarter of the way towards hitting their target. If you would like to help, you can sponsor the team here.
If you are in the Chester area on 21st May or live anywhere along the route do head out and offer them encouragement along the way. The atmosphere promises to be amazing and the runners really do appreciate all the support and encouragement.
